Once in a while there comes a long weekend of three consecutive holidays and two nights. If you are a tourist who is planning to visit Kerala then these are some of the ideas you can try out. Especially if you are an IT professional working in Chennai, Bangalore, Coimbatore or Hyderabad.
Kerala is one night away from all the major cities in South India in a train or bus (We would suggest taking Volvo buses) and 2-3 hours away from an airport in major cities of India like Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai and Kolkata if you are really looking forward for a relaxing and refreshing getaway from your tight schedules in the concrete jungle.
If you are looking for a weekend Kerala houseboat package, here is how you should plan it.
Day 1 – Arrival at Kochi & trip to Alleppey for backwater cruise
Take an early morning flight to Kochi and visit Kodanad elephant training center where you can watch baby elephants.Drive to Alleppey and check in to the houseboat.Houseboat tours usually starts at around 12 noon. Enjoy the scenes in a Kerala country side in a backwater cruise -skim past Chinese fishing nets, bowed down paddy fields, local inhabitants engaged in making coir products, rustic homes and swaying coconut palms. All meals will be served on board and the boat will anchor at 5:30 PM. Overnight stay at houseboat. A good A/C houseboat on rent with all meals may cost around 5000 INR.
Day 2 – Sightseeing in Kochi and Departure
Enjoy the morning at your leisure and checkout of the houseboat after breakfast. Drive to Kochi and visit FortKochi and Mattancherry. Keep your date with history in Kerala and Visit the Jewish Synagogue built over 400 years ago, containing beautiful Belgian glass chandeliers and paved with hand pained tiles from China; the Dutch palace with its wonderful murals depicting the entire story of the Ramayana; St:Francis Church which was the original burial site of Vasco De Gama and which is the first European church that was built in India and the fishing in the Forth Kochi beach using the Chinese fishing nets.Take an evening flight or train to your city.
