Thrissur, also called Trichur or Thrisshivaperur in olden times, is a famous city in Kerala. It is the third-largest city in the state and is often called its cultural capital. Thanks to its strategic location, Thrissur has always been a center for trade.
Sakthan Thampuran made Thrissur his capital and an important commercial hub. The king founded the Thrissur Pooram festival and made it an important cultural aspect of this city.

The best time to visit Thrissur is between October and March when the weather is pleasant. You can visit during the Thrissur Pooram festival in April or May. You can participate in the joyous Onam festival celebrations held here in August or September.
How to Reach Thrissur
Thrissur is well connected by road and rail. Thrissur has an excellent local transportation system. You can travel by state-run buses, taxis, or the local autorickshaws.
Alternatively, you can also opt for car rental or bike rental services. You must also walk around and soak in the historic ambiance of this ancient city whenever you get the opportunity and the weather allows.

Thrissur does not have an airport. The nearest airport is Cochin International Airport located 53 km from the city. You can fly into Cochin from every major city in India. Thrissur is well connected by road and rail. Thrissur has its own railway station. It is connected by direct trains from every major city in India.
