Seven Churches established by St:Thomas in Kerala include Kodungalloor Church, Kollam Church, Nilakkal Church, Niranam Church, Kokkamangalam Church , Kottakkavu Church and Palayoor Church. Malyattoor in Kerala is considered to be the half church as St:Thomas never established a church there. According to legend, Virgin Mary visited St. Thomas while meditating on Malayattoor hills. On his way to Tamil Nadu, where he later got killed, he prayed on a rock, drawing a cross on it. A golden cross later appeared on the rock, discovered by hunters in CE 500. This led to the construction of a church, earning the site the name Golden Cross Hillock. The area, inhabited by sheep, influenced the church offerings of gingelly and salt. Pilgrims climb the hill chanting St. Thomas's name, especially on the Sunday after Easter. Officially, the hill is known as Kurisumudi.
