Literally translated, this city is called Great Ananthan's City, and is named for the king of serpents, on whom Padmanabhan or Vishnu rests. Other significant sights include the Kuthiramalika Palace Museum, with its frieze of 122 wooden horses, and Shangumugham Beach, which is known to be hard to rival when it comes to watching the sunset.
