Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary extends over 14 acres and is famous for varieties of migratory birds. The Sanctuary can be visited by canoes; arranged with local fishermen at the entrance to the sanctuary. A two-hour rowing canoe trip is quite cheap and is best undertaken in the evening/early morning to avoid the afternoon sun. The bird sanctuary, set within the lush acres of wooded land nearby, acquaints one to the variety of migratory birds that flock in thousands, some from the Himalayas, and some as far as Siberia.

One can get thrilled by the native kingfishers ablaze in psychedelic colors, experience a walk under rookeries of egrets and night herons or lone golden-backed woodpeckers, and even delight in the acrobatics of the paradise fly-catchers. The main attractions are local birds like the waterfowl, cuckoo, owl, egret, heron, and water duck, and the migratory Siberian cranes. Parrots, teal, larks, wood beetles, and other birds are seen here during their respective migratory seasons.

Hello Richa, Alcohol is not served in houseboat. However you can get it from the givernment approved shops for your personal consumption on the way and consume in the houseboat
