Kutanad which is also known as the "Rice Bowl of India",lies below sea level and is the only region in the world where farming is done below sea level. The region is known as the 'Rice Bowl of Kerala' and is scenic with the unending stretch of paddy fields, small streams and canals with lush green coconut palms. The boat trip to Changanacherry passes through this beautiful and fertile region. The fascinating thing about this place is that rice cultivation is done over here in a mass scale despite the fact that the place is about 10 feet below sea level. Dykes have been built all around to protect the land. The backwaters are a photographer's paradise.

Hello Richa, Alcohol is not served in houseboat. However you can get it from the givernment approved shops for your personal consumption on the way and consume in the houseboat
