Mount Carmel Church in Munnar is the first Catholic church in the High Ranges, known to all as the "Life of Pie Church" because it was the main setting for the Hollywood blockbuster 'Life of Pi," directed by Ang Lee.

Church Over the Years

This church was an integral part as Munnar developed over the years from a simple forest town to tea plantations to a well-known tourist destination in southern India. This church was founded in 1898 by Father Alphonse, a Spanish missionary. After his death, his body was buried in this church.

About Mount Carmel (Life of Pi) Church

This is a stunning 18th-century church with its unique architecture, history and culture. The arrangement of the church amidst the snow-capped hills is really beautiful. From these hills you have a wonderful view of Munnar. The silence in the church creates a refreshing, holy atmosphere.

Hello Richa, Alcohol is not served in houseboat. However you can get it from the givernment approved shops for your personal consumption on the way and consume in the houseboat
