Poopara - Overview

Poopara is a traveller's spot in Idukki, which is less affected by changing seasons. Sceneries, cool climate and large areas of protected forest with cardamom plantations are sure to attract any city-dwelling traveler.Seasonal change is a factor to be reckoned before setting out on a journey to enjoy and learn nature's creative moods. A waterfall never remains the same when one visits it after a few months of his previous visit. Though we do not normally experience the four seasons in their full strength, variations in climatic conditions make on all life forms. A dense forest turn thin during summer, taking away much of its greenery.A view from Bodymettu, near here, to the plains bordering Tamil Nadu, is clear. Fast spreading fogs that affect vision are a rare phenomenon, thanks to the presence of large rocky barren grasslands on the north-eastern side. During December and January for appears, but not to any great extent.Going on a visit to Poopara during summer is a real pleasure.

Best Time to Visit

Poopara in Kerala’s Idukki district is cool heaven in misty hills to escape the blazing sun.

During the summer months from December to April, the overall Poopara weather remains pleasant with sprinkles of rain. The Poopara temperature ranges from 33°C to 25°C. February and March are the best months to explore Poopara Kerala as the weather is quite clear. It is advisable to carry cotton clothes and also umbrellas as rain showers are common in the Poopara climate in Summers.

During the rainy season from May to August, the Poopara temperature ranges from 31°C to 24°C. Covered with lush green foliage, monsoons in Poopara have a charm of their own. However, keeping the rainy weather in Poopara in mind do carry an umbrella and raincoat.

During the winter season from September to November, Poopara weather is hot as well as rainy. The Poopara climate during the winters is characterized by the rainiest months and is ideal for a honeymoon. 

How to Reach

Situated in the lap of Mathikettanchola National Park, Poopara Munnar was a barely noticed rest stop between tourist destinations of Munnar and Thekkady which is now a tourist paradise.

By Road: Poopara Munnar intersects the Munnar-Kumily State Highway and Kochi-Dhanuskodi State Highway. 

By Train: There is no railway station near Poopara Kerala in less than 50 km. However, the nearest railway station to Poopara is Palani at a distance of 50.86 km.

By Air: The nearest airport to Poopara is Cochin International Airport which is 110 km away by road from this village. The Madurai International Airport is 140 km away from Munnar which is the nearest tourist place to Poopara Kerala.

Poopara Tourist Places

-Bodimettu: Situated in the lap of Western Ghats at a height of 450o ft above sea level is Bodimettu which is one of the most scenic places to visit near Poopara about 10  km away and is rich in flora and fauna.

-PowerHouse Waterfalls: Also called Chinnakanal Waterfalls, Power House Waterfalls cascading from a height of 2,000 meters rolling over steep slopes and surrounded by greenery all around is one of the Poopara tourist places that every traveller must visit when in South India.

-Mathikettan Shola National Park: A must-visit during your Poopara tourism, Mathikettan Shola National Park is an abode of multiple species of flora and fauna is surely a feast for adventure lovers.

-Devikulam Lake: Devikulam Lake tops the list of places to visit near Poopara and is an ideal picnic spot with pristine waters and picturesque surroundings. Dita Devi Lake is said to be bathed in Goddess Sita and hence assumes religious importance.

Yes, We can include dinner or lunch as per the request of the guests. All meals are included in the houseboat. A private driver with car is available in all our packages and you can have lunch in any place you like during sightseeing. You can either order from the resort where you are staying or go out for dinner as well
