Grand Kerala Tour (7 Nights)- Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival at Kochi

Our tour representative will liaise with you at Kochi Airport and escort you to your transportation to Munnar.  Pause a while on your journey to savour  Neriamangalam Bridge which spans the Periyar River, known as ‘The Gateway to the Highranges’ which is where the hill station of Munnar is situated.  Built in 1935 by the Maharaja of Travancore, the views are spectacular and a delicious taste of what lies ahead, rolling green hills stretching away to misty mountain tops, and lush valleys intersected with waterfalls and peaceful lakes.

Day 2

Enjoy Marvelous Munnar

Munnar, explore this charming town, a jewel in the hills, a popular destination for honeymooners and courting couples for its heavenly ambience and beautiful topography, a point not lost on the old ruling British elite who developed this location as a resort back in the days of Empire.  Explore the town or venture out into the rolling landscape, travel on foot, by horse or take to the water.  Lake cruises are available or the excitement of rafting on some of the more rapid descents, the choice is yours.  Relax back at your hotel in the evening and continue to enjoy the view of the mountains from your room.

Day 3

Munnar to Thekkady

It is impossible to visit Kerala and not be struck by the wildlife that inhabits this area.  The moderate climate and plentiful supply of water create a tropical paradise which supports numerous species of animals and birds.  The Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Thekkady is an opportunity to see incredible creatures such as tigers, elephants and monkeys in their natural habitat and is certainly not to be missed.  Explore on foot or enjoy a lake cruise, the ideal vantage point for a little wildlife spotting. Dinner and bed await you at an old style coffee planters bungalow.

Day 4

Thekkady to Kumarakom (Houseboat)

At Kumarakom your holiday will continue aboard a Kerala houseboat, complete with thatched roof and full on board catering.  You will dine and sleep here.  During the day, this boat will take you on a slow inland cruise through languid waterways, a chance to see local people hard at work fishing or making coir crafts for which this area is renowned.  Have supper on deck in the evening sunlight before snuggling up in your luxury cabin for a night’s rest at a quiet water berth.

Day 5

Kumarakom (Houseboat) to Kovalam

After breakfast on board, your next delight is to journey to the coast at Kovalam, a place made famous during the 1960s due to its popularity with hippies! There are three distinct beaches formed by jutting rocky outcrops and a prominent Lighthouse after which one of the beaches is named.  Watch the sun set over the ocean and enjoy a long walk across the white sands before retiring to your resort hotel with a glorious ocean view from your window.

Day 6

Kovalam to Kanyakumari

From Kovalam, your tour takes you on to Kanyakumari, famous for the confluence of three oceans-the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean.  The point at which the oceans merge is called the Triveni Sangam and is considered by the Indians to be a sacred place where washing in the waters will cleanse the bathers of sin.  Triveni Sangam is a powerful and significant location and is said to bear witness to the finest sunrises and sunsets in the whole of India.  Bathed in light, the vast Thiruvalluvar statue, a memorial to the famous Tamil philosopher and poet, is a remarkable sight and a ferry service can take you to the rock to view it.

Day 7

Kovalam to Trivandrum

Trivandrum is also known by its previous name of Thiruvananthapuram and is the designated capital of Kerala state.  Visit the Padmanabhaswamy Temple, the holiest place in the city but be aware that respect must be shown by wearing either Dhoti for the men or Sarees or Churidar for ladies.  Another popular visitor attraction is the Kuthiramalika Palace Museum which literally means, ‘Palace of Horses’ named after the frieze of 122 wooden horses on the outside of the building.  Veli Tourist Village is a great destination for families with young children with a waterfront park bristling with aqua entertainment for all ages.

Day 8

Kovalam to Poovar

Spend your last day in the resort near a beautiful estuary where river, sea, lake and beach converge.  Enjoy a last picnic on the picturesque golden sands before your chauffeur returns you to the airport at Kochi for your evening flight home.

If you want to change the resorts in this package, one of our trip designers will work with you till you are happy with the package.
