While it takes around 4 hours and 50 minutes (including waiting times), you get to enjoy the views Kerala has to offer from the bus if you are lucky to get a seat. Buses are frequent but sometimes you may have to wait for few hours to get a bus that is not crowded.

While it takes around 3 hours and 20 minutes (including waiting times), you get to enjoy the green country sides of Kerala from the train.
Do note that this route even though is comfortable that bus, has some drawbacks. You will be on your own once you reach the railway station and will have to wait for trains to Alleppey which are not very frequent. You need to also ensure that you are not getting into any train that goes through Kottayam route. General compartments of the trains are usually crowded with local passengers. and if you have a lot of luggage you will find it hard to get a seat.
